Kevin Carroll will serve as WPLL Futures Director for Ohio. A character and leadership intensive program, WPLL Futures is not intended to replace or interfere with a player’s high school or club commitments. Players selected to a Futures team will not be required to attended any practices prior to the championship summit on July 10th-12th, but rather will take part in a variety of activities that will help them develop lacrosse and life skills, as well as train with our Pro players.
Carroll and a team of WPLL players will hold a regional tryout on Sunday June 3rd at the Ohio Fortress Field in Columbus, for 9th, 10th, and 11th grade players interested in taking part in the Ohio branch of the WPLL Futures Program.
Carroll is a Long Island native with a 32-year playing and coaching background playing lacrosse at Holy Trinity High School in Hicksville, NY, US Military Academy Prep School, and collegiately at SUNY Albany. He is the current coach of the Mason, OH Middle School program, is a US Lacrosse Level 3 Certified Coach, and is a US Lacrosse Coach Development Program Trainer. He currently serves on the Board of the Irish Lacrosse Foundation which is chaired by legendary Cornell coach Richie Moran. Carroll is President of the Southern Ohio Chapter of US Lacrosse, and is the Managing Director for Lacrosse for Wishes Southern Ohio, a summer travel program that raises money for the Make-A-Wish foundation.
For Ireland Lacrosse, Carroll was a player evaluator for the 2010 & 2014 Men’s National Team, the 2009 Women’s National Team, and was an assistant coach for the 2014 Men’s Developmental Team. In addition, he organized and managed Team Ireland exhibition games in the US. This included the Connecticut Cup Exhibition game at Yale University for Team Ireland that played against the Connecticut New York Youth Association Alumni Team that boasted four MLL players and two US World Team players.
Central to the WPLL’s mission is helping the next generation of female lacrosse talent grow into strong, confident leaders. With the help of partner Brave Enterprises, the WPLL’s Futures Program is designed to expose high school players across the country to lacrosse and leadership experiences that will prepare them for any challenges they may face. Players selected for the Futures Program will receive a mix of lacrosse and life skills that will help them for life. Futures players will also have the opportunity to play in a national tournament this summer, competing against top-talent from across the country.
The tryout consists of a variety of lacrosse and fitness drills that will be run by WPLL Pros. In addition to meeting and learning from WPLL pros, all players that attend the June 3rd tryout will take part in in-person activities designed to test and improve their leadership and bravery skills. After the evaluations are completed, 60 players will be named to the three Ohio Futures teams, 20 players from each grade.
"I am excited and honored to be a part of the WPLL Futures program. Being a father of two daughters, the mission to develop character and leadership in our female athletes is so important and the driving force for me wanting to be a part of this process. Bringing together the sport's current stars to provide guidance and mentorship, I believe will be an invaluable experience for our future Stars.”
